We asked Colin a few popular questions while onsite at a job in Seattle. Today, he shares the three most common reasons people decide to replace their old plumbing.

Hi, my name is Colin with Best Plumbing and Heating in Seattle. We’ve been serving Western Washington for more than 40 years.

So reasons you would replace pipes, whether they’re inside your house or they’re from the water meter to the house and your water main would be

1. If you have older pipes that are corroded. I mean if you ever have cut one of those out or had a plumber come out, they can be filled with lots of pretty gross debris. It’s going to be rust, it’s going to cause water discoloration. So that’s one reason right there.

2. Another reason is because they’re leaking. Obviously nobody wants a leaky pipe.

3. Third reason would be you’re not getting enough pressure or volume. When you turn on your faucet, if it’s dripping and there’s very little flow to it, often that’s because the galvanized pipe is corroded enough to start slowing the flow down. So when you put a new pipe in, you have this huge relief of pressure and when you take a shower, you get lots of volume and pressure and that’s what people like.
