HOW TO CHANGE A TAP WASHER.
Changing a leaking tap is the easiest thing you can do around the house and it will also save calling out a plumber.
When a tap washer is worn out, the tap will continually drip water and this can waste a lot of water.
First step is to locate and turn off the main water supply.
Once the mains are turned off Start by removing the tap handle, then remove the tap cover and finally remove the spindle.
Once the tap spindle is removed you can then inspect and remove the old washer, and replace it with the new one.
You may want to inspect and replace the O rings a gaskets to avoid leaks from the spindle. FIX-A-TAP grease is good to help your taps open and close like new again.
Replace everything in reverse order, turn the main water supply back on and check for any leaks.
If your taps are still leaking then you will need to reseat the taps using a reseating tool. Grind a small amount of the seating being careful not to take off too much. The seat is about 2mm in thickness, if you take of more than 2mm you will need to call a plumber and they will take off the tiles and replace everything and that is a huge project.
A reseating tool can be used to clean the seat also, to help make a nice flat, even surface for the washer to sit against making a water tight finish.
